Additional compensation
Teachers have access to additional incomes shown here. The contribution towards health care insurance is typically less than the average 25% - 30% in the private sector. A job for life (tenure), a guaranteed defined benefit plan in retirement, plus 2-3 months vacation round out the typical package. A defined contribution retirement plan such as a 401(K) is more typical in the private sector.
